# BASIC (glossary)

Beginners All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code (BASIC)
is a third generation programming language originally developed at
Dartmouth College in the early sixties. COBOL and the various forms
of BASIC taken as a whole are the two most popular programming languages
of all time.
